Rescue Dogs & Behaviour Support

Bringing a rescue dog home can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also feel far harder than many people expect.
You may have imagined long walks, cuddles on the sofa and a dog finally feeling “safe”… only to find yourself living with barking, fear, overwhelm, stress or complete chaos instead.
That does not make you a bad owner, and it does not make your dog “bad”.
Some rescue dogs settle quickly. Others struggle with the huge transition into modern pet dog life.

You may be dealing with:
-
barking or lunging on walks
-
fear of people or dogs
-
pulling or panicking on lead
-
inability to relax
-
barking at noises or movement
-
over attachment
-
scavenging or stealing
-
sensitivity to handling
-
difficulty coping with busy environments
-
a dog that seems constantly “on edge”
Many rescue dogs are not being difficult or stubborn. They are overwhelmed, stressed, confused or simply trying to stay safe in an environment that feels very different from the one they previously knew.

Reward-Based Support

At All Wagged Out, I use reward-based, welfare-focused training and behaviour support designed to help dogs feel safer, calmer and more confident.

That means:

-
no punishment-based methods
-
no flooding
-
no intimidating equipment
-
no forcing interactions

Instead, we focus on:

-
understanding behaviour
-
reducing overwhelm
-
building confidence gradually
-
practical real-life skills
-
helping owners better understand their dog

Every rescue dog is different. Some dogs need training support, while others may benefit from more in-depth behaviour support depending on their individual needs, stress levels and history.

Rescue Dogs & Modern Life

Modern life can be incredibly intense for some dogs.
Busy streets, traffic, visitors, cafés, lead pressure and constant stimulation can be difficult for dogs with limited socialisation or a history of stress.
Some rescue dogs have spent long periods relying on survival behaviours. Others may never have experienced life inside a home before.
Behaviour is communication, not stubbornness.

Scentwork & Confidence Building

I also offer scentwork and mantrailing activities which can be incredibly beneficial for rescue dogs.
Scent-based activities can:
-
build confidence
-
reduce stress
-
encourage problem solving
-
provide safe outlets for natural behaviours
-
strengthen the relationship between dog and owner
For many nervous or overwhelmed dogs, learning to use their nose can be genuinely transformative.
